Identity

OKOM DSU

An identity system built from meteorological data, where atmospheric conditions become a precise and unrepeatable signature for every stage of OKOM DSU’s work.

Overview

OKOM DSU is a research and design studio exploring multidisciplinary storytelling and navigation systems to define new techno-markers. Its identity is built around the okta, the meteorological unit used to measure cloud cover in eight degrees. At the centre of the system is a custom Station Plot generator, based on the symbols used in meteorology and aviation to encode the atmospheric conditions of a specific place and time. Connected to airport weather databases, it creates a unique seal for each project milestone, recording the exact coordinates and conditions in which it took shape. Every meteorological symbol was redrawn to form a proprietary visual vocabulary between scientific notation and graphic design. Minimal but layered, the system extends across print and digital applications. The website acts as a visual logbook, combining project archives with meteorological and navigational data so that each entry becomes an atmospheric document.
